Service Technician (Entry Level)
The Entry-Level Equipment Service Technician will learn to diagnose, service, and repair light construction equipment such as rammers, plate compactors, trench rollers, generators, air compressors, pumps, power trowels, and small engines.
This is a hands-on position designed for recent trade school graduates who want to build a long-term career in construction equipment repair. You will work directly under our Service Manager and senior technicians, receiving mentorship and OEM training.
We are looking for someone with strong mechanical fundamentals, a great attitude, and a desire to grow.
Key Responsibilities :
Equipment Diagnostics & Repair (Training Provided)
- Assist in diagnosing and repairing small engines and light construction equipment
- Perform routine maintenance: oil changes, air filters, carburetor cleaning, tune-ups
- Learn troubleshooting of fuel, ignition, electrical, and basic hydraulic systems
- Test equipment after repair to ensure safety and performance
- Develop proper diagnostic procedures and repair efficiency.
Work Order & Shop Processes
- Learn how to document repairs, labor time, and parts used
- Use manufacturer parts diagrams and shop software
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace
- Communicate clearly with the Service Manager about job status
Parts & Customer Coordination
- Identify correct parts using manufacturer diagrams and parts systems.
- Collaborate with parts counter for accurate and timely parts procurement.
- Occasionally assist with equipment check-in, customer questions, or field testing.
Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
- Learn to work with the parts department to identify correct components
- Learn equipment check-in procedures
- Occasionally observe or assist with customer explanations of repairs
Qualifications & Skills
- Recent graduate of a Diesel, Small Engine, Automotive, or Heavy Equipment Trade Program (or equivalent technical training)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Basic understanding of engines.
- Comfortable using a computer for work orders and parts lookup
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a shop/yard environment
- Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic

Training: Completes all safety training as well as demonstrates effective safety practices. Works with other mechanics to obtain skills and knowledge to repair larger components. Training through manufacturer training courses a plus.
Equipment and Tool: The employee is expected to own the basic tools necessary to perform the job. All specialty tools and diagnostic equipment will be provided by the company. The company will assist employees in acquiring basic tools if needed. We understand recent trade school graduates may still be building their tools — we will work with motivated candidates to help them get started.
